And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you. – Philippians 1:6
I am fully aware that I am not where I want to be in my life. There is nothing in my spiritual or physical life that I can say I am at the place I want to be.
Even though God has made my short comings very evident to me He has also told me in His Word that is to be expected. There will be a time of perfection but that will only be on “the day of Jesus Christ”.
Until that time I need to continue to do my part to learn and grow in Christ. To seek wisdom and understanding and spread the good news that Christ saves.
Although we work to become closer and more like Christ, Joyce Meyer puts it best in this quote.
God is the only one who can perfect the good work He has started in your life, but it takes some time. And during the process He wants you to recognize you are making progress. So give yourself a break and say, “I’m okay and I’m on my way!” – “Ending Your Day Right: Devotionals for very Evening of the Year” By Joyce Meyer
God started that good work in you and though you have a part in the process: quiet time with Him, prayer, worship, Bible reading, fellowship, acts of service, praise, singing to Him in praise and worship, etc. He is the ultimate One who will complete the process. It’s not something that we can do on our own or will it. It is part of the gift of redemption. God brings us to Himself at the right time to perfection.
Thank you Lord for Your gracious gift. Thank You for the process and help me to remember that it’s okay to be in process. At least I’m not stagnating. For that Lord I praise You!
A Woman After God’s Own Heart!
Hi Joy, I appreciated some of your thoughts in your message it encourages us not to give up and aim for the goal as Paul tells us to do. We are to put our flesh to death by The Spirit.
When the Scriptures talk about being Perfected in Love it is not what the world thinks Perfection is, Paul talked about his wordly flesh in Romans 7 it was before he was perfected in Love, we see this in his assertion later that He had finished the race which was before he died, he tells us he had achieved the crown of righteousness and so had others. In Romans 6 & 8 and other Scriptures He explains how to be perfected in Love, we like Jesus who was God but also had the outer flesh as we have with all it’s limitations, showed us that in Him we are set free from the evil flesh Nature when we are Born again, as you can see below, we are no longer wrenched as Paul called himself at that time, we are a Royal Priesthood, a People belonging to God, a Holy Nation, our old flesh nature is gone and we have God’s Nature, and the mind of Christ the New has come and we have been set free and no temptation will be greater then we can bear we are also do what is righteous, even as Jesus is righteous – 1 John 3: 7
2Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in Peace; and the God of Love and Peace shall be with you.
1 John 4:17-19 Herein is our Love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in Love; but perfect Love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in Love. We Love Him, because He first Loved us.
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.
Philippians 3:14-16 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Nevertheless, where to we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
1John 3 : 9 No one who is Born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been Born of God.
Christian Love from both of us – Anne.
